Fine and finer
I know it didn't happen exactly in Dubai, but still UAE:
The National, June 8, 2008: "An Egyptian house wife was fined in a fujairah court Dhs. 4000 yesterday, for beating her two filipina maids so bad they escaped from her home and were treated in the hospital for bruises, wounds and BROKEN BONES"
Let's see: 10,000 dirhams fine if a gardner washes a client's car in an Emaar development, 5000 dirhams fine if you give a lift to a colleague and the RTA agent thinks you might charge for the ride, or 4000 dirhams to beat the living daylights out of two helpless women till you break their bones.
Hmmmmm....... choices, choices...
Got it! I'll take the 4000 dirhams option: By beating the living daylights out of the RTA agent and the Emaar security agent who are watching for carpoolers and gardners, and then off to Fujeirah!!!

Yay you started a blog! Congrats!
It's worth a try. We'll all chip in to bail you out!
Yeah I'll chip in too - though I'd love to bitch slap the lights out of that silly, arrogant Egyptian cow!
We're looking at this the wrong way.
We should be thankful that criminally hard working gardeners aren't actually beheaded, and that illegally environmentally-minded commuters aren't stoned to death. It shows great lenience and forbearance on the part of the courts.
And we should perhaps be rather upset that the two maids weren't whipped for firstly allowing themselves to be abused and then putting their poor mistress through the ordeal of a court trial.
The gardener thing enrages me. We had a gardener, a "legit" one employed by one of Emaar's "approved" cronies. He was shite. But it wasn't the poor bugger's fault. He had 20 gardens to tend to, each one paying him 200 a month, of which he got to keep 500. Needless to say his motivation was non existant and everyone's plants died!
So we find a new gardener, an enterprising chap who has bought his own visa off a local guy. A nd for a month or so everything is great.
Gardener is doing a great job until someone from Emaar's Cronies whinges that he's not able to exploit his lads any more. Emaar instructs security to police every gardener and any without permits will be dropped off with Al Plod and deported.
Oh, and even "legit" gardeners found washing cars (which a lot of them do to top up their pathetic slave wages) will also be kicked out on the grounds that his gardening visa doesn't allow carwashing.
So we're back to dead garden again :-(
congrats on the new blog ...
I'll join Rosh as well in the bitch slapping part too
yallah, we need a new blog post :)
The most interesting is that the court passed the lenient sentence after the woman IGNORED the court and did not bother showing up at ANY of the sessions or proceedings!
People are arrested and spend the nights at the holding cells in the police station until someone bails them out for having a security cheque bounced against them or caught snuggling with their loved one in the corner of a bar by some sorry ass jealous loner who's just pissed he doesn't have someone, but THIS they don't care about even bringing her in for questioning.
Reminds me of the Lebanese businessman who was on visit and woke up after being drugged at his hotel to discover his money briefcase was stolen, when he reported it to the police they locked him up for drinking without a liquor license!!!
Ajeeb!
hey even she is a maid she is a human and for Gods sake she just get that litle amout, it cant pay what she'e been through.
You should do dat !
I admire the work your doing out here !
I am trying to do some thing similar on my blog.
